Visiting Crete Botanical Gardens
This week we added a new page to our website, from our last visit to Crete, a page about the wonderful Crete Botanical Gardens.

It reminded me of how much we packed into that trip, as my notes tell me we didn’t arrive at the gardens till 6pm, and we’d already done several things that day. The main path around the gardens is only a kilometer, and you should do it in about an hour. But all three of us on the visit (myself, Donna, and our guide Isi of Go-Crete) were mad-keen photographers and there was so much to photograph that it took us two hours.
At that point the path divides and you can do an optional extra kilometer’s walk, or head back to the entrance. As it was getting dark by this point, back to the entrance we went, accompanied by the sound of bouzouki music coming from the main building where the restaurant is. Our visit luckily coincided with one of the live music nights, so we decided to eat there. A group from a German cruise ship was coming, which really added to the fun. The buffet was an absolute feast, and there was as much wine as you could drink. The music and dancing were great, and I recorded as much as I could and put some of it into a YouTube video. Do take a look (and subscribe to our channel while you’re there):
I couldn’t possibly put all the photos on the website, so I’ll include a few more here. Thanks for reading, and if you’re ever near Chania on Crete do visit this lovely place, which arose like a Phoenix from the ashes of a devastating fire, where the garden’s owners lost 45,000 olive trees. Instead of starting over, they decided to build this botanical garden instead, and brought trees, plants, and flowers from all over the world to this beautiful spot on Crete.
Thanks for reading. If you know anyone who likes visiting Greece, do share the newsletter with them.
